Bon Vivant is a traveling gourmet and food critic who visits Mineral Town once a year, on Spring 22, to judge the Cooking Exhibition Festival. As a culinary connoisseur, Bon is passionate about food and takes great delight in tasting every dish entered in the contest.

Personality and Role

Bon serves as the judge of the Cooking Festival, held in Rose Plaza. He gives comments on each entry, praising delicious meals—or politely pointing out when something falls short.

Schedule

Spring 22: Appears in Rose Plaza for the Cooking Exhibition Festival as a judge.

  • You can gift him only after the festival ends, between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, while he’s sitting on a bench in the northeast corner of the plaza.

If married:

  • Bon will not stay in your house most days.
  • On the 10th, 20th, and 30th of each season, he stays home all day.
  • There is a 25% chance that he will randomly appear in your home at:
    • 11:00 AM–1:00 PM (lunch)
    • 8:00 PM–10:00 PM (dinner)
This only happens if he has 60,000 LP or more.

Marriage Candidate

Bon Vivant is a special marriage candidate available only to players who are serious about cooking. Unlike standard candidates, he does not have heart events, but marriage is possible by meeting very specific cooking-related conditions.

Marriage Requirements

Although Bon doesn’t have romantic heart events, he will accept a Blue Feather once you fulfill all of the following conditions:

RequirementNotes
Win the Cooking Festival 5 timesWins can be in any category (juice, desserts, bread, noodles, and rice)
Cook all 120 recipesUse kitchen; learn from villagers, TV, and cooking inspiration
Have 60,000 LP (Red Heart)Increase LP by gifting during his visits
Own a big bed and house upgradeStandard requirement for all marriage candidates

In the original GBA version, players had to win once in each food category, but the remake simplifies this to any 5 total victories.

How to Learn Recipes

There are 120 recipes to discover. You can learn them by:

  • Watching Delicious Cooking on Tuesdays
  • Talking to villagers
  • Getting inspiration by cooking existing dishes

All recipes must be cooked using your kitchen (upgraded house required).

Tip: Track Your Recipes

The game does not automatically record which recipes you’ve cooked. However, you can use the Goddess Collection located in your bookshelf. Toss cooked dishes into the Goddess Pond to register them and track your progress.

Proposal and Marriage

Once you have completed the requirements:

  1. Wait for Bon Vivant to visit on Spring 22.
  2. After the Cooking Festival, gift him as usual.
  3. On that same day, propose using the Blue Feather.

If he accepts, your wedding will take place soon after in a private ceremony.

If he declines, you’ll need to double-check that all criteria have been fulfilled, especially the recipe list and Cooking Festival wins.
