Mugi walks past you to answer an important phone call at Dudley’s desk. He asks the person on the other end if they plan to come home, but judging by Mugi’s response, it seems unlikely.
As he walks away, Dudley asks if it was Joanna calling. Mugi confirms it was his daughter. Mei has been waiting for her mother’s return for what feels like forever.
Though Dudley understands that Joanna must have her reasons, Mugi wonders what could be so important that Joanna would rather stay away than be with Mei.
Dudley recalls the last time Joanna came home: he took Mei to Mugi’s house and left without explanation. Mugi admits that his daughter is always like that, keeping everything to herself to avoid worrying him.
This time, though, he can’t forgive her for not telling Mei why she left. Mei is lonely and misses her mother! Talking about the situation makes Mugi somewhat angry.
Dudley sympathizes, knowing how much Mei needs her mother at her age. Mugi explains he has called Joanna, asking her to come back, but has received no reply. He feels a bit hopeful after deciding to go home and make Mei’s favorite meal.
