Chickens & Angora Rabbits

In this guide, we’ll cover how to care for Chickens and Angora Rabbits in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, including how to obtain high-quality Eggs and Angora Fur for better selling prices.

Both animals can be purchased from PoPoultry. Adult chickens lay eggs daily, while Angora Rabbits produce Fur every 5 days.

If fed, chickens will lay an egg the next day.

Angora Rabbit3000 G
If taken care of properly, Angora Rabbits will produce Rabbit Fur every 5 days.

There are two types of chickens—normal and brown—which function the same. The only difference is their color.

At the beginning of the game, your coop can hold up to 4 animals. You can raise more animals by upgrading your coop through the Workshop.

Upgrading the coop requires 350 Lumber, 200 Stone, and 5000 G. Once upgraded, the coop can hold up to 8 animals. After renovation, Saibara will also start selling the Mayonnaise Maker and Yarn Maker at the Forge.

Increasing Friendship (Hearts)

Chickens and Angora Rabbits are among the easiest animals to care for. When first purchased from PoPoultry, they start with 0 hearts and can reach up to 5 hearts naturally. Higher heart levels lead to better product quality.

Ways to increase animal friendship:

  • Talk to your chickens and rabbits daily
  • Hand-feed them (hold the feed and press the action button near them)
  • Let them stay outside the coop for at least 5 in-game hours

Each of these actions grants +1 friendship point per day. Points are never lost once earned. Note: You can’t brush Angora Rabbits to gain affection.

To get animals with more than 5 hearts, you’ll need to breed them.

Feeding Your Animals

  • Chickens need to be fed daily to lay eggs.
  • Angora Rabbits will still produce Fur even if they’re not fed, although feeding is recommended.

Lillia sells Chicken/Rabbit Feed for 10 G per bag. Each animal consumes one bag per day. You can store extra feed in the coop’s feed bin located at the back wall.

To store feed:

  1. Hold a feed bag from your backpack
  2. Stand in front of the feed chute
  3. Press the action button (Click on PC) to deposit it

The wallboard next to the chute shows how much feed is currently stored.

You can also create your own feed by placing Corn into the Water Mill next to the coop. 1 Corn = 30 bags of Chicken/Rabbit Feed. The mill can initially store up to 999 bags. Gotts offers a Water Mill Upgrade for 300 Lumber, 150 Material Stone, and 5000 G, increasing the capacity to 9999 bags.

To feed your animals:

  • Take feed from the chute and place it in the feed trough
  • Or, stand next to the animal and hand-feed it (recommended for bonding)

On sunny days, you can let animals graze outside. Use the bell next to the coop to release them. As long as they stay outside for at least 4 hours, you don’t need to feed them manually. Animals return to the coop at 8:00 PM automatically. You can also graze them on clear winter days.

Products

Eggs

Chickens produce eggs the morning after being fed. If not fed, no egg will be produced.

You can:

  • Sell eggs directly
  • Turn them into Mayonnaise using the Mayonnaise Maker
  • Use them in cooking or to make Spa Boiled Eggs (by throwing them into the hot spring)

Angora Fur

Use Clippers to shear Angora Rabbits. Saibara will sell the Clippers for 1800 G the day after you purchase a rabbit. Fur regrows every 5 days.

Fur can be processed into Yarn using the Yarn Maker.

Angora Rabbits will still produce Fur even if not fed, though feeding helps boost affection.

Breeding

Chickens

To breed chickens, place an egg in the coop’s nest box. A chick will hatch after 3 days with:

  • +1 more heart than its parent
  • Starting at 3 filled hearts

Chicks grow into adult chickens after 7 days. The process can be repeated to produce more high-heart animals.

  • Chicks will match the color of the parent chicken
  • If parents are mixed (brown + white), chick color is random
  • Save the game the night before hatching to reload for desired color

Maximum heart potential is decided when the egg is placed. If you sell the parent before hatching, the chick will have up to 6 hearts.

Angora Rabbits

Buy a Rabbit Breeding Kit from Lillia for 2000 G. The mother rabbit must have Fur available.

To breed rabbits:

  • You must have an upgraded Coop (adds a Rabbit Breeding Box)
  • Pregnancy lasts 5 days if fed daily
  • Missing a day adds +1 day to the pregnancy (up to 10 days)
  • Births are delayed on festival days

Breeding a 10-heart rabbit results in a baby rabbit with 10 hearts.

Reaching 10 hearts with a chicken also affects future offspring from shop-bought chickens—chicks can hatch with up to 10 hearts, even from a 5-heart parent.
