In this guide, we’ll cover how to take care of cows, sheep, and alpacas in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town (SoS FoMT), including tips on getting high-quality milk and wool for better selling prices.
You can buy these animals at Yodel Ranch. Adult cows will give you milk every day, while sheep and alpacas need 7 days before their wool can be sheared.
Purchasing Livestock
These animals can be purchased from Yodel Ranch. Adult cows produce milk daily, while sheep and alpacas grow fleece every 7 days.

Cows purchased from Mugi are medium-sized and need 9 days to mature if fed daily. Missing a day of feeding adds one extra day to the growth time, up to a max of 14 days.
Sheep and alpacas purchased are already adults.
Barn Upgrade and Machines
You can expand your barn by requesting a renovation at Gotts’ Workshop. The renovation requires:
- 400 Lumber
- 250 Material Stone
- 6,800 G
- 3 days of construction
After the renovation, the barn will house up to 16 animals and include two birthing pens.
Once the barn is upgraded, Saibara will sell the following machines:
- Cheese Maker
- Butter Maker
- Yarn Maker
How to Increase Your Animals’ Heart Levels

Each animal has friendship point (visible in the Relationships > Animal menu). More hearts mean better quality products.
- 1 Heart = 0–24 points
- 2 Hearts = 25–49 points
- …and so on
You can raise friendship by:
- Talking to the animal
- Hand-feeding the animal
- Letting them spend at least 5 hours outside (on sunny or snowy days)
- Brushing them
Each action grants +1 friendship point per day. Points are never lost.
You can obtain animals with more than 5 hearts by breeding your existing animals.
Feeding Your Animals

Cows produce milk daily if they were fed the day before. You can:
- Feed them Fodder by hand
- Let them graze outdoors (Spring, Summer, Autumn only)
- Place Fodder in the feeding bins inside the barn
Use the bell outside the barn to let animals out. If grass isn’t accessible, they’ll go hungry and won’t produce milk.
If animals graze outside all day, any Fodder placed in the feeding bin will be wasted.
Growing Fodder Grass
You can grow Fodder Grass on your farm. When cut, it no longer regrows on the same tile, but nearby grass can spread sideways. Grass spreads by 25% chance per tile daily during Spring, Summer, and Autumn.
To control spread, place lumber as a barrier.
Silo and Storage
Fodder can be stored in the barn silo. To store, hold the Fodder in your inventory and press Click at the silo chute (accessible from inside or outside the barn).
- Default silo capacity: 999 Fodder
- Expanded capacity: 9,999 Fodder (requires 300 Lumber, 200 Material Stone, 6,800 G)
Unlike cows, sheep and alpacas regrow their fleece without needing daily feeding.
In Winter, you can still take animals outside on sunny or snowy days using the bell, but since grass doesn’t grow, make sure to place Fodder inside.
Fodder grass has a 70% chance to regrow in Spring if it was cut during Winter.

Breeding

Livestock from Yodel Ranch have a maximum of 5 hearts. Breeding animals produces offspring that can exceed this limit.
- Offspring inherit +1 heart from the parent
- To reach 10 hearts, you must breed over multiple generations
Purchase a Pregnancy Kit from Mugi for 3,000 G (works for normal and special cows).
- Use the kit on a target animal
- For sheep/alpaca: fleece must be grown before using the kit
- Barn must have a free birthing pen
The next day, the pregnant animal will move to a birthing pen and stay there until birth.
- Pregnancy lasts 21 days if fed daily
- Missed feeding = +1 day per missed day (max 30 days)
- Birth is delayed if it falls on a festival day
Growth
Cow
- Baby Cow → Calf: 14 days (max 20 with missed feedings)
