Kappa

Kappa is a hidden character who lives in the lake on Mother’s Hill. He appears only when you throw a Cucumber into the lake. Kappa rarely speaks, but he will briefly show himself to accept your offering before returning underwater.

He will only accept Cucumbers. Throwing any other item into the lake is pointless—Kappa won’t appear.

If you throw a Cucumber into the lake for 10 consecutive days, Kappa will reward you with a special Blue Power Berry, which helps you work in bad weather without getting tired.

Schedule

Kappa never leaves the lake. Since the lake freezes in winter, you can only feed him cucumbers during Spring, Summer, and Autumn.

If you marry Kappa (yeah, it’s possible!), he won’t move into your house—he stays in Mother’s Lake forever. The kids you have with him will be normal humans, though.

How to Marry Kappa

Kappa is a special marriage candidate introduced in More Friends of Mineral Town (GBA) and also appears in the Switch remake.

He shares the same marriage requirements as the Harvest Goddess in the boy version, with one crucial decision that, if made incorrectly, will permanently lock you out of marrying him.

Choosing Your Candidate

After throwing 20 daily gifts into the Goddess Pond, the Harvest Goddess will ask if you have someone special in mind. She will present a list of all marriage candidates.
You must select Kappa from this list.

If you choose anyone else, you will no longer be able to marry Kappa in that save file.

Important: You only get one chance at this. Choose carefully.

Love Point Decrease in Winter

You can’t offer Cucumbers in Winter, and there is a 10% chance per day that Kappa will lose 200 LP during this season. This LP loss can be easily restored in Spring when you resume throwing Cucumbers.

Standard Marriage Requirements

Like regular marriage candidates, you must:

  • Have a Big Bed in your house
  • Reach 60,000 LP (Red Heart level)

However, Kappa will never use the bed or live with you after marriage.

Additional Marriage Requirements

To marry Kappa, you must also:

  • Be in Year 5 or later
  • Ship at least one of every item in the game via the Shipping Bin
    • Includes more than what’s listed in the bookshelf shipping list
    • Also includes weeds, Fish Bones, Relax Tea Leaves, and every unique item
  • Catch every type of fish, including the Whopper fish
    • You do not need to catch the largest version of each fish
  • Find all items in the Spring Mine and Lake Mine
    • Some items are unsellable (like statues, Travel Stone, and Kappa/Goddess Jewels), but you still must obtain them

Confession to Carter

Once you meet the above requirements, visit Carter at the confession booth inside the church on:

  • Monday
  • Wednesday
  • Rainy or snowy days

You’ll be given several confession options. Choose the random one that says you wish to marry Kappa.

If Carter approves, he will give his blessing—this is required to marry Kappa. If he rejects your desire, you’ll need to try again another time until you receive his blessing.

Collecting Kappa Jewels

There are 9 hidden Kappa Jewels in the Spring Mine, located on these specific floors:

  • B1 (entrance)
  • B40
  • B60
  • B80
  • B120
  • B140
  • B160
  • B180
  • B255

Each jewel appears only once and cannot respawn. Even if your backpack is full, the jewel will be absorbed into your item pouch when found.

Once all 9 are collected, they combine into a wearable accessory called the Kappa Jewel, which restores Fatigue when you’re outdoors.

Proposing

After all conditions are met, you can propose by throwing the Blue Feather into the lake.

  • If Kappa accepts, your wedding will take place 7 days later in a private ceremony at the church, attended by the Nature Sprites.
  • If Kappa rejects your proposal, it means you have not met one or more of the requirements.
