So, once Van rolls into town, his Pet Shop pops up on the left side of Rose Plaza every 15th of the season — but only if the weather’s nice and sunny.

To get Van to show up, you gotta give 30 gifts to the Harvest Goddess (only one gift counts per day). Then, on the first sunny Wednesday after that, when you step outside your house, Van’ll introduce himself.

He sets up shop on the second floor of the Inn, open from 8 AM to 10 PM (or 9 PM if you’re not tight enough with Dudley yet).

Quick tip: After you buy your first pet from Van, you gotta get that pet’s affection up to 8 hearts before you can grab another one.

Here’s what Van sells and when:

Van’s Favorite

You’ll receive Van’s Favorite from the Harvest Goddess one morning as a congratulatory gift for winning a “raffle.” This item is automatically sent to your mailbox when your VanFav Counter reaches 10.

How the VanFav Counter Works

Every time you visit a shop, make a transaction (regardless of how many items you buy), and close the store’s inventory screen, your VanFav Counter increases by 1. Once it reaches 10, Van’s Favorite will be delivered to your mailbox the next morning.

• Important: Selling items to Huang does not increase the counter. Also, when Huang visits your house through the front door, that won’t affect the counter either.
• Actions that do increase the counter include:
  • Buying items
  • Upgrading tools
  • Purchasing trees
  • Wrapping gifts
  • Upgrading your rucksack
  • Using services from Saibara and Gotts

How to Check Your VanFav Progress

If you want to know your current VanFav progress, you can force it through this method:

1. Save your game.
2. Buy something small, like Chicken Feed, at PoPoultry.
3. Return home and go to bed.
4. If Van’s Favorite isn’t in your mailbox the next morning, reload your save and do two transactions instead.
5. Repeat this process (three transactions, four, etc.) until you finally get Van’s Favorite. That tells you how many individual transactions were needed to reach 10.
6. Reload your save again and finish your day as normal, but make sure to hit the same number of transactions before ending the day.
7. The next morning, you’ll receive Van’s Favorite.
8. From now on, do 10 individual transactions per day to consistently receive Van’s Favorite the next morning.

Using Van’s Favorite

You can either sell it or give it to Van to unlock his secret shop inventory. When you hand Van a Van’s Favorite, he will offer you a special item, depending on how much money you currently have. The item offered is random within each money tier.

If you refuse the item Van offers you, he will not offer that same item again — you lose your chance for good.

Pet Shop (Rose Plaza)

• Location: Left side of Rose Plaza
• Available: 15th of each season (weather must be sunny)

Weather Trick

To ensure sunny weather:

1. Save on the 13th.
2. Check the Weather forecast on the 14th.
3. If rain/snow is predicted for the 15th, reload and repeat.

You can only own one of each pet variation (e.g., one Capybara and one White Capybara, but not two Capybaras).

• All pets are babies when bought.
• Pets grow into adults after 60 days.
• Pets don’t need to be fed.
• On sunny days, pets roam the farm and return home at 8:00 PM.
• On rainy days, they stay indoors.
• Pets cannot be picked up or taken off-farm.

You must raise your first pet to 8 hearts before buying another.

Selling Van’s Special Items

You can sell special Van items to Huang, but he buys them at half price. Yeah, kinda lame.

Huang buys these items at half or less of their original price. Yes, it’s kind of a rip-off.
