Wild Item

When you first move to the farm, Mayor Thomas will suggest you look for wild items in the forest that you can sell to make some quick cash. Foraging is one of the easiest ways to earn money early in the game.

The items you find change with the seasons, and new stuff will spawn every day whether you picked up the items the day before or not. Sometimes the same items show up in the same spots the next day, but it’s not guaranteed.

Usually, wild items appear in the same spots every day, like:

• The southern forest near Gotts’ house
• Near the hot spring and waterfall
• Along the long hill path up to the top of Mother’s Hill
• The south side of the lake, by the bamboo grove and Jennifer’s tent
• The grassy area near the hilltop entrance where Marie hangs out on Monday mornings
• The Secret Forest between the south and north forest areas
• Mineral Beach, usually on the west side or along the shoreline
• The forest behind the Church, guarded by Carter

Note: No wild items show up at the top of Mother’s Hill or in Carter’s forest during Spring and Summer.

There’s one hidden spot by Mother’s Lake you can only get to if you have a Level 3 (Gold) Hammer or better to break the big rocks blocking the path. In Autumn, you’ll find a Matsutake mushroom tree there. Nothing else spawns there during other seasons.

Some wild items are especially important:

• Blue Grass and Green Grass — selling 50 of each unlocks the Stamina Booster XL and Super Caffeine at the Clinic.
• Bamboo Shoot (Spring), Chestnut (Autumn), and Mushrooms (Autumn) — these are used in various cooking recipes.
• The Relaxation Tea recipe needs one of each colored grass.

Black Grass can’t be found in the wild. You can only get it by using the hoe inside the mines.

Another way to get colored grasses is by using a sickle on the fodder grass growing on your farm. The color changes depending on the current season. But you won’t get Black Grass or White Grass from cutting grass.
