In Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, besides Cows and Sheep, you can also raise Goats—a livestock animal that produces a high-value product you can sell for profit. Though their initial cost is quite high, goats can be a worthwhile long-term investment.
Goats only produce milk for one year, but within that time, they can easily pay for themselves due to the high selling price of their milk.
This guide explains how to obtain and care for a goat.
How to Get a Goat

In SoS: AWL, Female Goats can only be purchased from Van, and only during Spring 3 to Spring 8 each year.
- Price: 40,000 G
You can try to haggle with Van to get a discount. It’s possible to buy the goat for less than the listed price. - Upon purchasing, a cutscene will play where you, Van, and the Goat appear on your farm as you welcome the new animal.
Important:
- Goats are only available during Spring. If you miss your chance, you’ll need to wait a full year.
- Van will not sell you a goat if your Barn is full.
Goat Products
Just like cows and sheep, goats produce a product: Goat Milk.
- You can use the Milker (the same tool used for cows) to collect goat milk once per day.
- Goats enjoy being brushed and hugged, and caring for them regularly will increase the quality of the milk they produce.
- Goats are fully grown when purchased, so you can begin milking them immediately.
When the Goat Stops Producing Milk
After one year, the goat will stop producing milk permanently.
- There is no way to restore milk production, so keeping a non-productive goat would only take up space in your barn.
- In Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, you had to wait for the animal to die to remove it from the barn, but in this remake…
In Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, you can sell the goat once it stops producing milk.
To do this:
- Open the Ledger.
- Select Sell Animal.
- Choose the goat from the list.
Takakura will come the next morning to take the animal away.
If you want another goat and have space available in the barn, simply visit Van’s shop again on Spring 3 or 8 to purchase a new one.
