Crop Grading System

When you’re farming to make money, of course you’ll want to sell the highest-quality crops each season.

While growing and taking care of crops can be pretty chill and fun, it takes a bit of work if you’re aiming for top-tier harvests. That’s where the crop grading system comes in!

With three crop grades determined by things like seed quality, fertilizer use, watering, and more—it might seem a bit complicated. But don’t worry, this guide will help you boost your crop grades the easy way.

What Is Crop Grade?

In SoS: A Wonderful Life, when you harvest any crop, you’ll notice a letter next to its name—like B, A, or S.

That letter shows the quality grade of the crop, which is based on how well it was grown. Grade is affected by how often you water it, whether you used fertilizer, and even the quality of the seed you planted.

By default, most crops you grow will turn out to be Grade B, which is great for cooking and gifting, but not so great for selling since they don’t make much profit.

Each letter grade increases the sell price by 30G. Here’s a quick example using Sweet Potato:

Crop GradeSell Price
B180G
A210G
S240G

If you’re saving crops for recipes or gifts, Grade B is usually good enough. But if you want cash? Sell those A and S-grade crops!

Use Fertilizer to Boost Crop Quality

If selling crops is your main way of making money, you’ll definitely want to use fertilizer to level up your crops from B to S grade.

Fertilizer affects a crop’s quality during its growing phase. You can buy it from Vesta’s Farm for 20G each.

  • One fertilizer item covers one crop tile.
  • You can fertilize twice a day (morning + evening).
  • Hold the button to charge and spread it over a 3×3 area—super handy!

The more fertilizer you use before harvest, the better your results. Different crops have different growth times, so the amount of fertilizer they need varies too.

💡 Pro Tip: You’ll notice fertilized crops have darker, richer-colored leaves, even before they bloom or bear fruit.

Once a crop reaches S grade, you can’t fertilize it anymore—just wait for it to finish growing and harvest it.

Make Your Own Seeds with High-Quality Crops

Want to make your own top-quality seeds? Here’s a go-to method:

You’ll need a Seed Maker, which you can either:

How it works:

  1. Plant any crop seed.
  2. Regularly use fertilizer until you get an S-grade harvest.
  3. Put the crop into the Seed Maker.
  4. Wait a few in-game days and boom—you get two seeds of the same crop, now S-grade!

You can plant these seeds and repeat the process to multiply your stock of high-quality seeds. It’s a great long-term strategy for building a high-profit farm.

Hybrid Crops & Seed Grades

Once Year 2 hits, you can start making Hybrid Crops with Vinnie, the plant-like machine in Takakura’s house.

If you give Vinnie a high-grade crop, he’ll give you back high-quality seeds of that hybrid.

And if you’ve got the Upseed Flower (available in Winter), you can combine it with a crop when using Vinnie to get S-grade seeds right away.

Fruit Trees Are Tougher to Upgrade

Fruit trees take way longer to grow than regular crops, which makes boosting their grade kind of tricky.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Takes about 30 fertilizer bags to increase a tree’s grade from B to A.
  • So if you want to reach S grade, you’ll need 60 bags total before the fruit is ready to pick.

That’s a lot of effort—so it’s better to plant trees early in the season.

Normally, fruit trees take:

  • One full season to grow,
  • One full season to bloom,
  • Then you can finally harvest the fruit.

If you plant early and give them extra time before flowering, you’ll get 10 extra days to use fertilizer, which helps you hit that higher grade.
